Many people take vitamin supplements for various reasons. Among the most common reasons are to prevent diseases, bridge dietary nutrition gap, reverse certain sickness and symptoms, and slow down aging process.

For many, a daily multi-vitamin should be sufficient to meet your general nutritional needs. According to Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), the hierarchical need for anti-oxidant rank after calcium and multi-vitamin. Many people are taking anti-oxidant supplements besides multi-vitamin and calcium supplements.

It is not difficult for us to find, in a typical multivitamin supplementation, vitamin A, C, E, B1, B2, Niacin (B3), B5, B6, B12, folic acid, calcium, magnesium, copper, iodine, iron, phosphorus and zinc each has its own RDI (recommended daily intake). Thus, it is rather easy for anyone to follow how much to take.

However, it is hard to find a suitable recommended dosage of anti-oxidant for an individual. No physician is able to recommend any amount of anti-oxidant for you. This is due to the fact that the amounts of free radicals in you body cannot be determined simply by age or body weight. It is a function of the environment factors, your stress level, the food you eat, the medication you take, the amount of exercise you do, and many other factors can cause increase the free-radicals production in your body.

So, if you have been taking vitamin supplements, especially the anti-oxidant supplements to fight free radicals, do you know much to take?

In fact the above conditions varies from day to day. Therefore it is extremely difficult for you and I to determine the free-radical activities in our body. There are ways to determine the free-radical activities. There are sophisticated free-radical test conducted at laboratories. Recently, there is also free-radical home-test kit available. A home test is much more convenient and economical to do for most people.

Vitamin A, C and E are also known as potent anti-oxidants taken by many to fight free radicals in our body. If you are taking these anti-oxidant supplements and do not know how much you are enough, you may be excreting expensive urine! You can stop wasting by just doing a monthly free-radical test. A home-test will be able to serve the purpose of measuring if your anti-oxidant supplementation regime is effective.
